Belleville mural project is getting started

[BLANK_AUDIO] Double Mural Project got started with the
idea that we would bring interactive art to downtown Belleville to sort of inject
more culture than we already have. The idea is that we’re making
Belleville a destination. It’s more than just a suburb of St. Louis. It’s its own town in and of itself. We’ve got history here. There’s art, there’s culture,
there’s things to do. And what we’re doing is bringing
these murals downtown so that people can bring their
entire family down here and there’s gonna be something for
every member of the family to do. The idea behind an interactive mural
is that it gets you into the picture. Picture something on Instagram where
the background of the photo is vibrant and bright and colorful, and it almost
feels like you’re in another world. So what we’re doing is putting
these murals on businesses, and it’s gonna create a place where you
can step into a piece of art and everything going on around you is gonna
feel like you’re in a different place. We have artists coming in
from all over the country. When we got these murals approved
through the zoning board and and the city council we decided to
make our all call national, and what that did is brought
in talent from all over. And it kind of puts us on par with big
cities around the country that have mural projects like this,
places like New York or Los Angeles, and even to a lesser extent cities
like Austin or even Miami. Again, we have a whole big
mural festival going on. On Friday night you can come out to
Gaslight Patio on the corner of Church and Main Street and
you can meet all of the artists in person. They can talk about their concepts. And then on Saturday, from 10 to 3, all the artists are gonna be at
their murals installing them. You can come and watch the whole
process happen from the beginning. There’s gonna be music and ways to
see what we’re bringing to downtown. [BLANK_AUDIO]
