Indoor Kite Therapy

CHRIS: RECOVERING AFTER A STROKE COULD BE A LONG AND DIFFICULT PROCESS. ONE LOCAL MAN FOUND AN UNCONVENTIONAL THERAPY THAT GETS HIM ON HIS FEET AGAIN AND ALSO IN THE AIR. TIM HOLCOMB BRINGS US HIS STORY. FIVE FLIGHT YEAR ROUND. TIM: MOST PEOPLE SEE KITE FLYING INDOORS AND WONDER WHAT THAT IS ALL ABOUT. UNFORTUNATELY, I HAD A STROKE AND A PUT ME ON THE SHELF FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS. THIS KITE FLYING TURNED INTO A THERAPY. ONE MORE. PART OF MY STROKE IS THAT SOMETIMES I LOSE TRACK OF WHERE I AM GOING. THESE KITES HAVE THE ABILITY TO FLY BACKWARDS, FORWARDS. YOU CAN GO SLOW, FAST. AND AS LONG AS YOU ARE MOVING , A LITTLE BIT, IT DOES NOT TAKE A LOT, YOU CREATE THE TENSION IN THE SALE TO KEEP THE WIND LOAD IN THERE. BECAUSE MY HAND EYE COORDINATION AND DEPTH PERCEPTION WERE ASKEW , AND I STARTED USING FLYING AS A WAY TO REHABILITATE MYSELF. SPRINGTIME BALL MARK THE START OF MY SIXTH YEAR WITH THESE KITES WHERE YOU CAN CONTROL THE SPEED, ALTITUDE. ABOUT SEVEN AND A HALF FEET ACROSS THE TOP. ALMOST THREE FEET TALL. ABOUT FOUR OUNCES OF COURAGE. IT IS ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT GETS ME MOVING AND GOING INSTEAD OF SITTING AND WAITING. I WALK UP MY KITE RIGHT ALONG. IF I CAN DO IT — HAVING SOMEONE TELL ME — I DO NOT THINK SO DOES NOT HOLD MUCH WATER WITH ME. I AM GOING TO PULL IT AND IT
